Build Surfaces
First-layer adhesion decides whether most prints succeed. PEI sheets, textured plates, glue and proper levelling solve lifting, warping and failed starts.

Best Textured Build Plates for Easy Part Release (2026)
Compares textured PEI and coated build plates by surface pattern, adhesion, and finish so parts release cleanly with a grippy underside.

Best PEI Build Plates for Strong First Layers (2026)
Compares smooth and textured PEI build plates by coating type, adhesion, and durability so you get reliable first layers and easy part release.

Best Glass Beds for Ultra-Flat First Layers (2026)
Compares borosilicate and coated glass beds by flatness, thickness, and adhesion to give you a smooth, dead-flat printing surface.

Best Magnetic Bed Sheets for Quick Swaps (2026)
Compares magnetic bed sheet systems by adhesive base, heat resistance, and surface coating for fast, flexible print removal.

Best Bed Adhesive Glues for No-Warp Prints (2026)
Compares glue sticks, PVA slurries, and specialty adhesives by grip strength, residue, and material compatibility for warp-free bed adhesion.

Best Painters Tape for Reliable PLA Adhesion (2026)
Compares blue and green painters tape by width, surface texture, and grip for a cheap, effective PLA printing surface.

Best Flexible Build Plates for Snap-Off Removal (2026)
Compares magnetic spring steel flex plates by coating, magnet strength, and thickness so prints pop off with a simple flex.

Best Bed Leveling Springs for Stable Beds (2026)
Compares heated bed leveling springs by stiffness, length, and material so your manual level holds without constant re-tramming.

Best Bed Leveling Sensors for Perfect First Layers (2026)
Compares inductive, capacitive, and strain-gauge bed leveling sensors by accuracy, surface compatibility, and setup for automatic tramming.

Best Print Bed Scrapers for Safe Part Removal (2026)
Compares bed scrapers and spatulas by blade material, edge sharpness, and handle grip for removing stuck prints without damaging the plate.
How to choose
- Level the bed and set Z-offset so the first layer squishes slightly.
- Clean the plate with isopropyl alcohol regularly.
- Use textured PEI for PETG to avoid over-bonding.
- Use glue stick only when a material needs extra grip or release.
Common questions
Why won't my 3D print stick to the bed?
Usually a dirty build plate, a nozzle set too high or an unlevel bed. Clean with isopropyl alcohol and adjust Z-offset before changing anything else.
Is PEI better than a glass bed?
For most materials PEI grips well when hot and releases easily when cool, which makes it more convenient than glass.
